Pole identification method to extract the equivalent fluid characteristics of general sound-absorbing materials

چکیده
A method is presented to characterize general sound-absorbing materials through a pole-based identification of the equivalent fluid. This accomplished by 1) determining extended fluid material sample transfer function (TFM), 2) acoustic response poles effective density and compressibility, 3) build compressibility from associated local response. Real pole pairs describe dissipative medium (or equivalently an over-damped resonating medium), which natural behavior rigid-frame porous materials, while complex-conjugate locally-resonant typical metamaterials. Complex-conjugate elastic resonances are discarded. We test for several non-conventional materials. In general, better fit measured surface impedance obtained than with acoustics-based Johnson-Champoux-Allard-Pride-Lafarge model (JCAPL), appears also be robust errors TFM.

Schlieren photography to study sound interaction with highly absorbing materials.
Strong absorption of sound is often caused by the conversion of sound energy into heat. When this happens, it is not possible to study the interaction of sound with the absorbing material by means of reflected sound characteristics, because there is no reflected sound. Detecting for example the distance that sound travels in a strongly absorbing material, can be done by heat detection systems. ...

This paper is an overview of quasistatic measurement technique used to determine mechanical properties of sound absorbing materials. Experimental context and behaviour of polymer foam and rock wool are summarized. Concerning parameters are: static and dynamic strains, dynamic effects such as skeleton resonance and coupling with saturating fluid. Material anisotropy and frequency dependance of c...
متن کاملUsing the eigenvalues of the sound equation to determine the properties of materials
In this article, the eigenvalues of the sound equation are used to determine the refractive index. This refractive index helps to extract the acoustic components of the material such as the speed of sound in the material. This will help in identifying targets, especially in the field of signal processing. For this purpose, a method has been extracted that can be used to establish a relation bet...
